On a beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon, a friend and I decided to do something different. The flash food and slow wine pairing at Neethlingshof sounded like the perfect idea for such a lovely day.
As we arrived, we were greeted by the friendly staff members and shown to our table. They served us with our pairing plate and explained how the different wines are complimenting the 5 different mouth-watering bite size dishes.
To start off with we enjoyed a fruity, crisp 2016 Chenin Blanc, paired with a vegetables soup and bread stick. Then we moved on to Gewürztraminer paired with a samoosa and mango atchar with a hint of spiciness. To follow is a smooth red wine, Malbec, paired with a soft and tender chicken kebab on a bed of rocket. By the time we got to our fourth tasting, our taste buds were in absolute amazement about the different flavours already tasted and yet there were 2 more tastings to go! The Owl Post Pinotage was next in line and was perfectly paired with a prego steak roll. Last but not least… a muscular smooth red wine, the Caracal, served with something sweet…the very traditional malva pudding infused with liquorice reduction. What a perfect ending!
